Morgan Steward: Police Officer and Wheelchair User

As an honorary police officer for the Covington Georgia Police Department, Morgan Steward has a lot of responsibilities!

Morgan, who has spinal muscular atrophy, has always been fascinated with police officers. Members of the police force swore him in as an honorary officer in 2013. This day was dubbed “Officer Morgan Day.”

Morgan takes his police officer duties very seriously. He leads the town’s Christmas parade and helps people cross the street safely. He also has brought some cheer to local children (who are currently in the Department of Foster Care Services system) by taking them shopping at a local store during the holidays.

To help him stay active in the community, Morgan uses his Q6 Edge® 2.0 with iLevel® technology, which allows him to engage with his friends face to face and help him reach things that are normally out of his reach.

"Morgan loves the speed, the elevation, and the recline on his power chair," Tangi, his mother, said. "He's intrigued by everything the chair does."

When he isn’t busy with his police officer duties, Morgan lives with his mother, his father, Barron, and two siblings: His sister, Delana, and his brother, Dejaun.

Like his fellow officers in uniform, Morgan has become a hero in his hometown. Many people want to meet him and are encouraged by his positive attitude.

Since becoming a police officer, nothing frightens Morgan. He faces every obstacle head on.

“He just says, ‘I’m Officer Morgan; I can handle it,” Tangi said.
